Review - Avon Magix Face Perfector

Another day. Another primer.

Today the new kid on the block comes from Avon. Oh, Avon. I give major props to Avon jumping on so many wagons. Baked products. Press-On eyeshadow. And now some primer. Huzzuh! You've come a long way, Avon!

Meet, Avon's Magix Face Perfector Primer.

It's not available for sale just yet, but if you go to Avon's site, Reese Witherspoon will greet you. Here's what Avon has to say about the product:

Fancy shmancy with pretty little detailing- Ooh, shiny!

My first experience with this wasn't very favorable. I had received a small sample of this...yeah, small enough sample for my nose. I tried it out, but didn't do anything for me. I figured it was just because I didn't have enough product to really work with, so I disregarded my first initial trial. I gave it a first full test-run over this weekend. Malls. BBQs. It was going to go through a lot.

The tube is quite handy, twist off cap, and the tube is easy to squeeze the product from. It has a slight fragrance, which doesn't bother me at all, but I know some are sensitive to that. Again, it doesn't do anything for me but might knock some points off for others.

The consistency is unlike any other primer I've tried. It doesn't feel like a gel, like Smashbox. It doesn't have a lotion feel, like my Mark Matte Chance. It's not creamy like Benefit That Gal. And it's nowhere near as liquidy as LORAC Aqua Prime. It comes out looking like a lotion, a someone opaque white shade. But when it's blended onto my skin, it feels almost balmy. It instantly settles into my skin, leaving it feel smooth to the touch. Now that I'm thinking about it, the texture feels similar to what Benefit's Dr. Feelgood feels like on the skin. Just, not as with as much "slip" (or some would call greasy) to it.

Foundation goes on smooth, with no beading or "pilling". I've had some instances with some primers where I will put on my foundation and I'll get little rollie beads (do you like my made-up words?) of what is supposed to be priming my face. I admit I never really looked to see if it does what it claims to do, like fill in lines (which I don't really have) and fill in pores (which I definitely do have). Like I said, the foundation goes on just smoothly. It actually stands up pretty well in the heat, on Saturday I did a lot of running around and it wasn't exactly a winter wonderland outside. Yes, I had to blot. Yes, I had to touch up. But it wasn't excessive. And I didn't have to touch up with a ton of powder (like I usually have to). In a work environment, it did even better. My skin always looks wonky in those awful office lighting conditions, but I would go as far as to say that my skin looked pretty good when wearing this primer with my foundation.

The labels pretty much describe itself, but here's a comparison.
I think you can tell the difference on my skin.
I think.

It does a pretty swell job at keeping the shiny-ness at bay. My skin is oilier than I admit, and I reach for some tissue to blot quite a bit. I have to say I only had to blot twice. Yes. TWICE. And I only touched up with (very minimal) powder once (at lunch, right when I need a little makeup pick-me-up). I have to say I am very very very impressed with Magix Face Perfector. It's a cheaper alternative to other expensive primers (I believe it will retail for around $8 when it is finally released) and you get a pretty decent amount (1 oz tube). I definitely plan on buying another tube.

The Final Note: Thumbs up! Look out for this one!

I can't wait to try this. I hope it works for me. Maybe then I won't have to swing $30 for MACs prep & prime.

Woah! I didn't realize that MAC p&p was that expensive! Hopefully this will be a great alternative!
