This weekend I treated myself to some (cheap!) retail therapy. I met up with my cousin and we hunted some thrift stores for some cheap thrills. I didn't find much, just a video (yes, I still buy videos/VHS. I will never part with my VCR!!) and two cds . We also stopped at our favorite nail supply store for some dusty hunting (which I will post later this week) and finally found empty bottles for more frankening fun! Totally excited :D
Today's hidden gem is courtesy of Icing Cosmetics. Icing Cosmetics is sold at Icing stores, naturally. Icing stores are part of the Claire's company, as well as the now-disbanded Afterthoughts chain of stores (lots of memories of this store from my childhood!). For some reason, Icing stores are far and few between in my neck of the woods and was totally surprised to run into a store in a random mall.
The store was running a special, all cosmetics buy one get one 50% off, so naturally my cousin and I took advantage of the deal. My cousin picked up some eye shadow duos and singles, while I only left with one polish (I have to say the polish is amazing! They had some truly unique colors, but I was good and only bought one) and one single. The single, my friends, is today's hidden gem.
Unfotunately, the shadows do not have names. So let's call this "brown-green-olive-gold eye shadow of awesomeness", shall we?
You can see a hint of my nails here- Marine Blue from Icing!
My cousin and I literally gasped at the sight of this shadow. We took the last two on the shelf and hurrily went to the checkout.
This "brown-green-olive-gold eye shadow of awesomeness" is exactly that. AWESOME. I didn't know what to expect in terms of texture and pigment in the store, but once I cracked that baby open at home, I was in love. It has a wonderful, soft texture that is similar to maybe MAC's Velux Pearl, and has great pigment.
I know what you're thinking....the price of all this awesomeness? $3.50. Technically, the final price was only $1.75 since this was cheaper than the nail polish and got it for half off.
I have to say I don't have a shadow that's quite like it. I may have to do some more dupe-searching in my stash. But off the top of my head, this is one of a kind. This gem, my friends, is worth the hunt.

You know, I would never have thought of quality (and gorgeous!) eyeshadow at Icing. I will definitely check these out!
wow..the shade is very pretty! I like it when eyeshadows have multi-shades coming out..and the texture obviously is good! :)
BEAUTIFUL! I'm gonna have to check these out!
VW was spoob. it just sounded funny.
I love that shade...would be a great alternative to black.
I just bough icing eyeshadow because of this post and was really happy with the pigment. What type of brush did you use though, I had trouble picking it up on mine. I also had a lot of trouble blending with these.
@ Anon - I used a flat, siffer brush like the MAC 242 (link: http://tinyurl.com/m7c9ev). It's one of my favorites, it's perfect for packing on color on the lid. One more question, are you using a base? I find when I don't use a base, it's harder to blend any shadow. Hope this helped!!!
It actually looks a little like pewter. It is such a beautiful classy color for the eyes. Perfect for smoky and night eyes, and easy to turn into a daytime color as well.
